Some biohazards live right next to our food and we never suspect that we're inhaling or ingesting them. Waterborne pathogins live among us just this way, hidden and deadly.

Methods exist to cope with water-borne pathogens. Water-borne pathogens found in large buildings like hospitals, hotels, commercial office buildings, and some military facilities contain Legionella, Pseudomonas, and other antibiotic resistant germs, bacteria. For a long time we've known that those most at risk for waterborne pathogen illnesses include smokers, elderly, and anyone else with compromised health. Risks arise from faucets, shower heads, drains, humidifiers, and hot tubs containing rich environments for bacteria to grow and spread. Before long, colonies of waterborne pathogens follow their own little causeways through tubes, including feeding tubes.

Water in hospitals, hotels, commercial office buildings, and long-term care facilities contain waterborne pathogens such as Legionella, Pseudomonas and antibiotic resistant bacteria. Now, guidance documents developed by the World Health Organization; the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System; the New York Department of Health; and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) offer new methods for disinfection and prevention.

Faucets, shower heads, drains, humidifiers, and hot tubs provide rich environments for bacteria to colonize. Illness is caused when water is ingested, aerosolized, aspirated, or directly instilled through tubes like feeding tubes.  Anytime patients contract Legionnaires' disease from hospital water there's a marked increase in deaths. Preventive approaches to create safe disinfections protocols promise  It's important to monitor water contents on an on-going basis any where that the risk of waterborne pathogens arises.
